26 InstantWave High Speed Access PointThe APMS ToolThe InstantWave High Speed Access Point Management System (APMS) toolallows System Administrators to control their wireless network with the minimumof fuss. From the APMS you can assign user rights, perform software upgrades,etc. It is provided to perform initial installation and configuration reliability, andSimple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent functions.This section covers the following topics: Adding and Selecting APs, ManagingInstantWave High Speed Configurations, Viewing InstantWave High SpeedInformation and Statistics, and Saving and Loading Host Configurations.Once the APMS tool is installed successfully, you are ready to configure andmonitor the APs in the wireless network. Before the APMS tool can communicatewith an AP, the AP needs to have a unique IP address . The following sectionsdescribe how the APMS terminal is setup to communicate with an AP on awireless network.Assigning an IP Address to the APEach node on a TCP/IP network must have a unique IP address. An IP address isusually represented in four blocks separated by dots, i.e., the AP s factory defaultaddress is 192.168.1.1. The block’s range is restricted as in Figure 17 on page 27.After setting the AP’s IP address you need to set the Wireless stationsDetailed instructions on changing the IP address of the AP are given in AP Setting,on page 30.Assigning a Network ID to the APAn IP address contains two pieces of information: the network ID and the host ID.Network IDThe network ID identifies a group of devices, located on the same logical network,which are connected by routers.
