Configuring the System 3-27If you install the hard drive in another NEC PowerMate system withsecurity enabled, you must enter the master password to access the harddrive. If the hard drive is installed in another NEC PowerMate 2000system with security disabled, the system prompts you to enter the masterpassword and then a new user password.Moving the Hard DriveWhen a password protected hard drive is moved from its original systemand installed in another system, error messages appear indicating that thedrive is locked. Next, the Security Setup screen appears requiring the userto enter the master password to unlock the drive. Enter the masterpassword, when prompted.To take advantage of HDD password protection in another system, thesystem must be equipped with the same HDD password protectionfeature. To determine if the system has HDD password protection, checkthe Security Menu in the BIOS Setup to see if there are provisions forestablishing HDD passwords.FLASH UtilityThe system BIOS resides on a flash read only memory (ROM) chip inyour system. The FLASH ROM can be updated using the followingprocedure. Before starting the BIOS update, we recommends that you firstcontact NECC for assistance (see Chapter 6 for contact information).Update the FLASH ROM with a BIOS FLASH diskette. The diskettecontains the latest version of the BIOS code. You can get the diskettefrom NECC or download the BIOS from the NECC website. See Chapter6 for download and website information.Update the BIOS from the BIOS FLASH diskette as follows.1. Write down the BIOS Setup parameters currently set on your system.2. Turn off the system.3. Put the FLASH diskette in drive A, and turn on the system.4. When the flash upgrade menu appears, choose Update FlashMemory Area from a file.
