1-12 Technical InformationPower ManagementEach system incorporates power management features that lower power consumption whenthere is no activity detected from the keyboard, mouse, diskette drive, CD-ROM reader, orhard disk drive after a pre-defined period of time. As soon as activity is detected the systemresumes where it left off. With Power Management enabled, the system automatically activates the power-savingfeatures and enters Suspend mode when prolonged inactivity is sensed. The system’spower-saving functions are as follows. Reduces CPU clock speedThe CPU, cache, and video clock speeds are reduced, putting the system in theSuspend mode. Blanks out the monitorPuts the video controller into Suspend mode. The vertical sync clock and blanksignals to the monitor are disabled. Forces the IDE devices into stand-by modeA suspend command is sent to the IDE devices which put the devices into astand-by mode. The automatic polling feature in Windows 95 keeps the system from automaticallyentering power management. For automatic power management, the auto insert notificationmust be disabled.I/O AddressingThe processor communicates with I/O devices by I/O mapping. The hexadecimal (hex)addresses of I/O devices are listed in Table 1-5.Table 1-5 I/O Address MapAddress (Hex) I/O Device Name0000-000F DMA Controller 10020-0021 Interrupt Controller 10040-0043 System Timer 10048-004B System Timer 20060-0060 Keyboard Controller Data Byte0061-0061 NMI Status and System SpeakerController
