System memory can be expanded up to80 MB for the desktop system and up 136 MB for the minitower system. Memory expan-sion is performed using single in-line memory modules (SIMMs) installed in SIMM sockets. The standard 8 MB of memory is soldered on the system board. The first megabyte includesthe standard 640 KB of base memory. The remaining memory is extended memory. FourSIMM sockets are integrated on the system board. The SIMM memory sockets accept 1-, 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-, or 32-MB SIMM sticks. High-speedRAM is 32 bits wide with four parity bits. SIMMs are 256 K x 36 bit (1 MB), 512 K x 36bit (2 MB), 1 M x 36 bit (4 MB), 4 M x 36 bit (16 MB), and 8 M x 36 bit (32 MB). Thereare no switches or jumpers to set when SIMMs are added.
