3.4 Connecting the Water SupplyWhen connecting the water supply, follow theseguidelines:● Use only pipes, fittings, valves, and othercomponents, such as solder, that are approved foruse in potable water systems.● Tighten the appliance connection valves and/orfittings with care to avoid damage.● We recommend using unions and manual shut-off valves on the cold water inlet and DHW outlet.● Strive to make the hot water piping system asshort as possible, to deliver hot water to thefixtures more quickly.● To conserve water and energy, insulate all waterpiping. Never cover the drain or pressure reliefvalve. If the appliance is installed in a closed watersupply system, such as one having a backflowpreventer in the cold water supply line, meansshall be provided to control thermal expansion.Contact the water supplier or local plumbinginspector for information about how to controlthis situation.● After installing the appliance, clean the inletwater filter that is located inside the cold waterinlet, and then test the appliance for properflow and inspect for leaks. Instruct the applianceowner that the filter must be cleaned periodicallyto maintain proper water flow.163.4.1 Installing the plumbing connections1.
