19W415-0745 / 02.16.093.1.1 HORIZONTAL INSTALLATIONFor clearances to combustible materials from the vent pipe, see“FRAMING” section. This application occurs when venting through anexterior wall. Having determined the correct heightfor the air terminal location, cut and frame a holein the exterior wall as illustrated to accommodatethe firestop assembly. Dry fit the firestop assemblybefore proceeding to ensure the brackets on therear surface fit to the inside surface of the horizontalframing. The length of the vent shield may be cut shorter for combustible walls thatare less than 8 1/2” thick but the vent shield must extend the full depth ofthe combustible wall.A. Apply a bead of caulking (not supplied) around the corner edge ofthe inside surface of the firestop assembly, fit the firestopassembly to the hole and secure using the 4 screws W570-0026 (supplied in your manual baggie).B. Once the vent pipe is installed in its final position, apply high temperature sealant W573-0007 (notsupplied) between the pipe and the firestop.DETERMINETHECORRECTHEIGHTCAULKINGFIRESTOPSPACERVENTSHIELDFINISHINGMATERIAL20.2FIGURE 3.1.114 1/8”13 1/8”! WARNINGThe firestop assembly must be installed with the vent shield to the top.Do not fill the cavity between the pipe and the framing with any type of material.Terminals must not be recessed into a wall or siding more than the depth of the return flange of themounting plate. This application occurs when venting through a roof. Installation kits for variousroof pitches are available from your authorized dealer / distributor.See accessories to order specific kits required.A. Determine the air terminal location, cut and frame a square opening asillustrated in the ceiling and the roof to provide the minimum 1“ clearancebetween the vent pipe and any combustible material. Try to center the ventpipe location midway between two joists to prevent having to cut them.Use a plumb bob to line up the center of the openings.A vent pipe shield will prevent any materials such as insulation, from fillingup the 1” air space around the pipe. Nail headers between the joist forextra support.B. Apply a bead of caulking (not supplied) to the framework or to the Wolf Steelvent pipe shield plate or equivalent (in the case of a finished ceiling), and secureover the opening in the ceiling. A firestop must be placed on the bottom of each framedopening in a roof or ceiling that the venting system passes through. Apply a bead ofcaulking all around and place a firestop spacer over the vent shield to restrict cold airfrom being drawn into the room or around the fireplace. Ensure that both spacerand shield maintain the required clearance to combustibles. Once the vent pipe is installed in itsfinal position, apply sealant between the pipe and the firestop assembly.C. In the attic, slide the vent pipe collar down to cover up the open end of the shield and tighten. This will prevent any materials, such as insulation, from filling up the 1” air space around thepipe.CAULKINGVENT PIPESHIELDFIRESTOPUNDERSIDE OFJOISTVENTPIPECOLLARVENTPIPESHIELD21.13.1.2 VERTICAL INSTALLATIONFIGURE 3.1.2aFIGURE 3.1.2cFIGURE 3.1.2b10 3/4”10 3/4”
