NX5 PRE-INSTALLATION MANUAL RF OUTPUT REQUIREMENTSVERSION 0.1 2015-08-01 PAGE 1.6.1SECTION 1.6: RF OUTPUT REQUIREMENTSThis section describes requirements associated with the antenna and RF cabling to be used with theNX5 transmitter.Antenna considerations include the following: Installing an Antenna Feedline Antenna Feed Cable - see page 1.6.2 Antenna System - see page 1.6.4For detailed information about protecting the antenna system from lightning strikes, see Nautel’sRecommendations for Transmitter Site Preparation Manual.Installing an Antenna FeedlineWhen installing an antenna feedline for the NX5 transmitter, perform the following tasks:1. Ensure that the RF feedline that will connect the transmitter and the antenna system has a suitablyrated coaxial cable (see “Antenna Feed Cable” on page 1.6.2).2. Connect the shield of the antenna feedline coaxial cable directly to the station reference groundwhere it enters the building. For more information about the station reference ground, see “StationReference Ground” on page 1.5.10.3. Install lightning protection devices. For more information about lightning protection, refer toNautel’sRecommendations for Transmitter Site Preparation Manual.4. Pass the center conductor and the shield of the feedline cable through a ferrite toroid that ispositioned between the shield ground at the building entrance and the shield termination at thetransmitter. Install the ferrite toroid prior to installing flanges on the feedline cable. Nautelprovides suitable ferrite toroids [Nautel Part # LP23 (2.187 inch inner diameter)] in the ancillary kitwith transmitter delivery.
