25The Basics of Shooting and PlaybackDigital ZoomWhen the camera is zoomed in to the maximum optical zoom position, rotating and holdingthe zoom control or the side zoom control toward g triggers digital zoom.Digital zoom can magnify the subject up to about 4× beyond the maximum magnification ofthe optical zoom.• When you are using digital zoom, the camera focuses on the subject in the center of theframe and the focus area is not displayed.Maximum optical zoom Digital zoom enabledC Digital Zoom and InterpolationUnlike optical zoom, digital zoom uses a digital imaging process known as interpolation to magnifyimages, resulting in slight deterioration of picture quality according to the image mode (A 62) anddigital zoom magnification.Interpolation is applied at zoom positions beyond V when taking still pictures.
