87Advanced Camera Settings – The Shooting MenuUse this option to determine how the camera focuses when shooting still pic-tures.Auto-focus Mode YZ Single AF(default setting) Focuses only when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.a Full-time AFAdjusts the focus continuously even when the shutter-releasebutton is not pressed halfway. Use this setting for shooting mov-ing subjects.AF LockFocus and exposure are locked when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, and remainlocked while the shutter-release button is held in this position (AF lock). AF lock can be used totake pictures of off-center subjects or in situations in which the camera is unable to focus usingAutofocus (P.123). Procedures for AF lock are described below. In this example, AF area mode(P.86) is set to Center.1 Focus.Position the subject in the center of the frame and press theshutter-release button halfway.2 Check focus indicator.When the subject is in focus, the focus indicator on the monitorlights up. The focus area is outlined in green on the monitor.• Focus and exposure will remain locked while the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.3 Recompose picture.• Keeping the shutter-release button pressed halfway, re-compose your picture. The distance between the cameraand your subject should not change while the focus islocked.
