E42Reference SectionWhite Balance (Adjusting Hue)The color of light reflected from an object varies with the color of the light source. The humanbrain is able to adapt to changes in the color of the light source, with the result that whiteobjects appear white whether seen in the shade, direct sunlight, or under incandescentlighting. Digital cameras can mimic this adjustment by processing images according to thecolor of the light source. This is known as “white balance.” For natural colors, select a whitebalance setting that matches the light source before shooting.Although Auto (default setting) can be used under most types of lighting, white balance canbe adjusted to suit the sky conditions or light source and achieve more natural color tones inthe image.The current setting can be confirmed in the monitor when shooting (A9).
