34Basic Photography and Playback: Auto ModeTaking Pictures with the Self-timerThe camera is equipped with a ten-second and two-second timer for self-portraits.This feature is useful for reducing the effects of camera shake that occurs whenpressing the shutter-release button. When using the self-timer, use of a tripod isrecommended.1 Tap the self-timer control.The self-timer menu is displayed.2 Tap Y or Z.Y (ten seconds): Suited for important occasions(such as weddings)Z (two seconds): Suited for preventing camera shakeThe mode selected for self-timer is displayed.When H is tapped, the menu will close and themonitor display will return to shooting mode withoutchanging the self-timer setting.3 Frame the picture and press theshutter-release button halfway.Focus and exposure will be set.4 Press the shutter-release button therest of the way down.The self-timer starts, and the number ofseconds remaining before the shutter isreleased is displayed in the monitor. The self-timer lamp blinks while the timer is countingdown.
