xviii QUICK START● Slide the battery into the compartment. (Orienting the battery: Have theside with the word “Nikon” on top and insert the end with the trianglefirst.) Press the battery door closed.SETTING THE DIOPTERThe diopter is located to the right of the viewfinder. It’s important to set your diopter soyou’re able to see when your subject is sharp. If it’s set incorrectly, autofocus will stillfocus the lens on your subject, but the subject may still appear blurry to you. You onlyhave to set the diopter once.Remove the body cap from the D60 (or remove the lens if you’ve already attachedone). Look through the viewfinder and point the camera at something bright so youcan easily see the three boxes in the viewfinder. Slide the diopter up and down whilelooking through the viewfinder until the boxes are sharp.Note: If you wear glasses when photographing, have them on when you set yourdiopter. The opposite is also true. If you don’t wear glasses when photographing, don’twear glasses when you set your diopter. The diopter is correcting the viewfinder foryour vision, so you want to see the viewfinder under the same circumstances as whenyou’re taking a picture.ATTACHING A LENSRemove the cap on the back of your lens by turning the cap to the right. On the back of the lens there is a small white circle along the outer edge. Look for amatching white circle on the camera body, along the edge of where the lens attaches. As you fit the back of the lens into the opening in the camera, line up the two circles.Once the circles are aligned the lens will fit flush with the camera. Rotate the lens tothe right until it locks into place.INSERTING A MEMORY CARDMake sure the camera is off before inserting the memory card. The D60 uses a Secure Digital (SD) memory card. The card slot is located on theright side of the camera (when looking at the camera from the back). Open thecover to the memory card slot by pressing and sliding the cover toward the back ofthe camera. It’s important to orient the cardcorrectly when inserting it into thecamera. One corner of the mem-ory card looks as though it hasbeen cut off. The end with thisclipped corner goes into the cam-era first. The side labeled with thename of the card should be facingthe back of the camera.Removing the memory card:Always turn the camera off before removingthe memory card. To remove the card, simplypress down on the card and it will pop outpartway when you lift up your finger.TIP
