Nivetec Signet 515 Operating Instructions Manual
2 Signet 515/2536 Rotor-X Flow SensorsGeorg Fischer Signet products are manufactured in a varietyof wetted materials to suit various liquids and chemicals. All plastic materials including typical piping types (PVC, PVDF,PP and PE) are more or less permeable to contained media, such as water or volatile substances, including some acids. This effect is not related to porosity, but purely a matter of gasdiffusion through the plastic. If the plastic material is compatible with the medium accordingto the application guidelines, the permeation will not damagethe plastic itself. However, if the plastic encloses othersensitive components, as is the case with GF Signet plasticpaddlewheel sensors, these may be affected or damaged bythe media diffusing through the plastic body and rotor.Failures of PVDF paddlewheel sensors when used in hot nitricacid applications have been reported. PVDF is known to allowfor substantial permeation of nitric acid constituents withoutbeing damaged itself. No clear guideline can be given here, since the damaging effect to the sensor is highly dependenton temperature, pressure and concentration.Utilizing sensors in applications with aggressive substances ispossible. On special request GF Signet can provide sensorswith a different internal resin encapsulation (potting) that willdelay the damaging effect of acids to the sensors. For all Special Product inquiries or to place an order, pleaseemail signet-specialproduct@georgfi scher.com.1. Depressurize and vent system prior to installation or removal.2. Confirm chemical compatibility before use.3. DO NOT exceed maximum temperature or pressure specs.4. ALWAYS wear safety goggles or faceshield duringinstallation and/or service.5. DO NOT alter product construction.Below are Safety Instructions from the pipe fittingsinstruction sheet:6. Do not use this product for any purpose other than forwhich it was designed.7. Use with liquids only.Warning / Caution / DangerIndicates a potential hazard. Failure to follow allwarnings may lead to equipment damage, injury,or deathPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE)Always utilize the most appropriate PPE duringinstallation and service of Signet products.Pressurized System WarningSensor may be under pressure, take caution tovent system prior to installation or removal.Failure to do so may result in equipment damageand/or serious injury.Hand Tighten OnlyOvertightening may permanently damage productthreads and lead to failure of the retaining nut.Do Not Use ToolsUse of tool(s) may damage product beyond repairand potentially void product warranty.Note / Technical NotesHighlights additional information or detailedprocedure.Safety InformationChemical CompatibilityProduct RegistrationPaddlewheel Retaining Nuts:Red (515), Blue (2536), and Gray (2536)The retaining nuts of paddlewheel sensors are not designedfor prolonged contact with aggressive substances. Strongacids, caustic substances and solvents or their vapor maylead to failure of the retaining nut, ejection of the sensor andloss of the process fluid with possibly serious consequences, such as damage to equipment and serious personal injury.Retaining nuts that may have been in contact with suchsubstances, e.g. due to leakage or spilling, must be replaced.Paddlewheel Maintenance:Paddlewheel flow sensors are subject to wear and mayrequire maintenance and replacement of mechanical parts(rotors, pin, O-rings, bearings, retainers, etc.). The frequencyof recommended maintenance will vary based uponapplication specifications, characteristics of the measuredfluid, and installation details. These can include, but are notlimited to: process flowrate, occurrence of water hammer, fluidcorrosiveness and abrasiveness, sensor installation relevantto other equipment.GF Signet offers individual replacement parts and rotorreplacement kits, which include replacement instructions, allowing customers to perform field maintenance and reduceapplication down-time. Please refer to the PaddlewheelReplacement section (page 5) or contact your local GF SalesRepresentative with any questions.515, 2536, 8510, 8512, 2537 Only:To support our customers, the GF Signet Repair Departmentoffers services to recertify the plastic paddlewheel products tofactory specification.
