44The messageKEYGUARD OFF is briefly displayedindicating that the keyguard has now been deactivated.When keyguard is activated:• To answer a call, press the SEND key. During thecall, the keypad remains unlocked and the phonecan be operated in the normal way.• To end a call, press the END key. After the call isended, the keyguard automatically becomes activeagain.• The phone can not be switched off before the key-guard is deactivated.Note: When the keyguard is activated, calls may bepossible to the emergency number programmed intoyour phone e.g., 911 or another official emergencynumber). However, one-touch emergency dialing(‘the 9 key’) does not operate.Send DTMF (Menu 17)You can transmit numerical information as a seriesof tones, using the DTMF facility (e.g. to check formessages in your answering machine). There are twoways to send DTMF tones:Manual Dialing:A Make the call in the usual way.B When the call has been answered, enter thenumbers. Each number is sent immediately, as aDTMF tone. The length of the tone depends onhow long you press the key.Automatic Dialing:A Make the call in the usual way.B When the call has been answered, use the RCL keyto recall a stored ‘DTMF’ number from a memorylocation (e.g. for location 23, press RCL 2 3).C To send the whole number (displayed) as DTMFtones, press MENU SEND, or MENU 1 7. A seriesof tones, each tone representing a digit of theDTMF number, will be heard.The special characters ‘+’, ‘p’ and ‘w’ are used forDTMF dialing; these are available on the * key.
