17171717The BasicsEmergency 9 dialingThe 9 Key is reserved for an Emergency Numberthat is programmed into your phone by your dealer.• Press the 9 key for about 2 seconds.Emergency 9 Dialing must be set On for this to work! See“Emergency 9 Dialing (Menu 3 7)” on page 38.Note: Official emergency numbers vary by area (e.g., 911or another official emergency number). However, onlyone emergency number is programmed into your phoneto be dialed automatically by Emergency 9 Dialing, andthis may not be the proper number in all circumstances.Note: Emergency 9 Dialing does not operate whenKeyguard is activated. However, an emergency call canbe made without deactivating Keyguard by entering thewhole emergency number programmed into your phoneand then pressing SEND.Keyguard• To activate Keyguard, press END for a fewseconds (or press MENU then !).• To deactivate Keyguard, press MENU then !.Keyguard lets you “lock” your phone’s keypadso that keys don’t accidentally get pressed(e.g. when the phone is in a pocket or a purse).KEYGUARD ACTIVE remains (or reappears) onthe display until any key is pressed or Keyguardis deactivated.Answering a Call with Keyguard Active• Press SEND.During the call, the keypad is automatically unlockedand the phone can be used normally. After the callis ended, Keyguard is automatically activated again.Switching off your phone with Keyguard ActiveOpen the phone, deactivate Keyguard (press MENUthen !), then switch the phone off as usual.
