It enableswireless access to data networkssuch as the Internet.The applications that may use packetdata are MMS, video streaming,browsing sessions, e-mail, Push totalk, remote SyncML, Javaapplication downloading, and the PCdial-up.To define how to use the service,select Menu > Settings >Connectivity > Packet data > Packetdata connection and from thefollowing options:When needed — to set the packetdata connection to established whenan application needs it. Theconnection will be closed when theapplication is terminated.Always online — to set the phone toautomatically connect to a packetdata network when you switch thephone on. or indicates that theGPRS or EGPRS service is available. Ifyou receive a call or a text messageor make a call during a packet dataconnection, or indicates thatthe GPRS or EGPRS connection issuspended (on hold).Modem settingsYou can connect the phone usingBluetooth wireless technology orUSB data cable connection to acompatible PC and use the phone asa modem to enable EGPRSconnectivity from the PC.To define the settings for EGPRSconnections from your PC, selectMenu > Settings > Connectivity >Packet data > Packet data settings >Active access point, and activate theaccess point you want to use. SelectEdit active access point > Alias foraccess point, enter a name to changethe access point settings, and selectOK. Select Packet data access point,enter the access point name (APN)to establish a connection to anEGPRS network, and select OK.You can also set the EGPRS dial-upservice settings (access point name)on your PC using the Nokia ModemOptions software. See ”Nokia PCSuite” p. 84. If you have set thesettings both on your PC and on yourphone, the PC settings are used.Data transferSynchronize your calendar, contactsdata, and notes with anothercompatible device (for example, amobile phone), a compatible PC, or aremote Internet server (networkservice).
