All Rights Reserved. 81Using batteries and chargersFor charging and recharging your phone battery, see Charging thebattery on page 10.• Use only batteries approved by the phone manufacturer and rechargeyour battery only with the chargers approved by the manufacturer.• A new battery's full performance is achieved only after two or threecomplete charge and discharge cycles!• The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it willeventually wear out. When the operating time (talk-time and stand-bytime) is noticeably shorter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery.• When a charger is not in use, disconnect it from the power source. Donot leave the battery connected to a charger for longer than a week, since overcharging may shorten its life. If left unused a fully chargedbattery will discharge itself over time.• For good operation times, discharge the NiMH battery from time to timeby leaving your phone switched on until it turns itself off (or by using thebattery discharge facility of any approved accessory available for yourphone). Do not attempt to discharge the battery by any other means.• Temperature extremes will affect the ability of your battery to charge:allow it to cool down or warm up first.• When the battery is running out of power and only few minutes of talk timeremain, a warning tone is heard and Battery low is briefly displayed. When no more talk time is left, Battery empty is displayed and awarning tone is sounded and the phone switches itself off.• Use the battery only for its intended purpose.• Never use any charger or battery that is damaged or worn out.• Do not short-circuit the battery. Accidental short-circuiting can occur whena metallic object (coin, clip or pen) causes direct connection of the + and -terminals of the battery (metal strips on the back of the battery) for examplewhen you carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting theterminals may damage the battery or the connecting object.• Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summeror winter conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery.Always try to keep the battery between 15°C (59 F) and 25°C (77 F). A phonewith a hot or cold battery may temporarily not work, even when the batteryis fully charged. The performance of NiMH batteries is particularly limited intemperatures below -10°C (14 F). The performance of Li-Ion batteries isparticularly limited in temperatures below -0 °C (32 F).
