Wireless LANYour device can detect and connect towireless local area networks (WLAN).Using a WLAN, you can connect yourdevice to the internet and compatibledevices that have WLAN support.About WLANTo use a wireless LAN (WLAN) connection,it must be available in the location, andyour device must be connected to theWLAN. Some WLANs are protected, andyou need an access key from the serviceprovider to connect to them.Note: In France, you are only allowed touse WLAN indoors.Features that use WLAN, or that areallowed to run in the background whileusing other features, increase the demandon battery power and reduce the batterylife.Important: Always enable one of theavailable encryption methods to increasethe security of your wireless LANconnection. Using encryption reduces therisk of unauthorised access to your data.WLAN connectionsTo use a wireless LAN (WLAN) connection, you must create an internet access point(IAP) for WLAN. Use the access point forapplications that need to connect to theinternet.A WLAN connection is established whenyou create a data connection using aWLAN internet access point. The activeWLAN connection ends when you end thedata connection. You can use WLAN during a voice call orwhen packet data is active. You can onlybe connected to one WLAN access pointdevice at a time, but several applicationscan use the same internet access point. When the device is in the offline profile, you can still use WLAN (if available).Remember to comply with any applicablesafety requirements when establishingand using a WLAN connection.Tip: To check the unique media accesscontrol (MAC) address that identifies yourdevice, open the dialler and enter*#62209526#.WLAN wizardSelect Menu > Settings andConnectivity > WLAN.The WLAN wizard helps you to connect toa wireless LAN (WLAN) and manage yourWLAN connections. If the search finds WLANs, to create aninternet access point (IAP) for aconnection and start the web browserusing this IAP, select the connection andStart web browsing. If you select a secured WLAN, you areasked to enter the relevant password. Toconnect to a hidden network, you mustenter the correct network name (serviceset identifier, SSID).If you already have the web browserrunning using the currently active WLANconnection, to return to the web browser, select Continue web browsing. To end the active connection, select theconnection and Disconnect WLAN.Connectivity 55© 2010 Nokia.
