Wireless LANYour device can detect and connect to a wireless localarea network (WLAN). To use WLAN, a network must beavailable in the location and your device must beconnected to it.WLAN connectionsImportant: Always enable one of the availableencryption methods to increase the security of yourwireless LAN connection. Using encryption reduces therisk of unauthorised access to your data.To use WLAN, you must create an internet access pointin a WLAN. Use the access point for applications thatneed to connect to the internet. A WLAN connection isestablished when you create a data connection usinga WLAN access point. The active WLAN connection isended when you end the data connection. You can alsoend the connection manually. See "Connectionmanager", p. 53.You can use WLAN during a voice call or when packetdata is active. You can only be connected to one WLANaccess point device at a time, but several applicationscan use the same internet access point. When the device is in the Offline profile, you can stilluse WLAN, if available. Remember to comply with anyapplicable safety requirements when establishing andusing a WLAN connection. If you move the device to another location within theWLAN and out of range of a WLAN access point, theroaming functionality can automatically connect yourdevice to another access point that belongs to the sameWLAN. As long as you remain within range of accesspoints that belong to the same network, your devicecan stay connected to the network.Tip: To check the unique media access control(MAC) address that identifies your device, forexample to configure the MAC address of yourdevice to a WLAN router, enter *#62209526# onthe device keypad. The MAC address is shown onthe device display.See WLAN availabilityTo have your device show WLAN availability, selectMenu > Tools > Settings > Connection >Wireless LAN > Show WLAN availability. If WLAN is available, is shown on the display.Tip: You can also scan for networks in range.WLAN wizardSelect Menu > Connectivity > WLAN wiz..The WLAN wizard helps you find and connect to awireless LAN. When you open the application, yourdevice starts to scan for available WLANs and lists them.To update the list of available WLANs, select Options >Refresh. To mark up WLANs in the list of found networks, selectFilter WLAN networks. The selected networks arefiltered out the next time the application searches forwireless LANs.52 ConnectivityCyanCyan MagentaMagenta YellowYellow BlackBlackCyanCyan MagentaMagenta YellowYellow BlackBlack
