An active high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA)connection (network service) is indicated with .Select from the following:Network mode — Select which network to use. If you selectDual mode, the device uses the GSM or UMTS networkautomatically, according to the network parameters and theroaming agreements between the wireless service providers.For details and roaming costs, contact your network serviceprovider. This option is shown only if supported by thewireless service provider.A roaming agreement is an agreement between two or moreservice providers to enable the users of one service providerto use the services of other service providers.Operator selection — Select Automatic to set the device tosearch for and select one of the available networks, orManual to manually select the network from a list. If theconnection to the manually selected network is lost, thedevice sounds an error tone and asks you to reselect anetwork. The selected network must have a roamingagreement with your home network.Cell info display — Set the device to indicate when it is usedin a cellular network based on microcellular network (MCN)technology and to activate cell info reception.Wireless LANYour device can detect and connect to wireless local areanetworks (WLAN). Using a WLAN, you can connect your deviceto the internet and compatible devices that have WLANsupport.About WLANTo use a wireless local area network (WLAN) connection, itmust be available in the location, and your device must beconnected to the WLAN. Some WLANs are protected, and youneed an access key from the service provider to connect tothem.Note: In France, you are only allowed to use WLANindoors.Features that use WLAN, or that are allowed to run in thebackground while using other features, increase the demandon battery power and reduce the battery life.Important: Always enable one of the available encryptionmethods to increase the security of your wireless LANconnection. Using encryption reduces the risk ofunauthorised access to your data.WLAN connectionsTo use a wireless LAN (WLAN) connection, you must create aninternet access point (IAP) for WLAN. Use the access point forapplications that need to connect to the internet.A WLAN connection is established when you create a dataconnection using a WLAN internet access point. The activeWLAN connection ends when you end the data connection.You can use WLAN during a voice call or when packet data isactive.
