If it should malfunc-tion or break down, grounding provides a path of leastresistance for electric current to reduce the risk ofelectric shock. The power cord has a plug with agrounding pin.Plug thepower cordinto anappropriateoutlet thatis properlyinstalled andgrounded inaccordancewith all localcodes andordinances. The outlet must be on a nominal 120-voltcircuit.A temporaryadapter maybe used toconnect thepower cordto a 2-polereceptacleas shownat the rightif a properlygroundedoutlet is notavailable.The lug or wire extending from the adapter mustbe connected with a metal screw to a permanentground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover.Some 2-pole receptacle outlet box covers are notgrounded. Before using an adapter, contact a quali-fied electrician to determine whether the outletbox cover is grounded before using an adapter.The temporary adapter should be used only untila properly grounded outlet can be installed by aqualified electrician.DANGER: Improper connection ofthe power cord increases the risk of electricshock.
