48 Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 modulesType Label Color/State MeaningGreen/Steady The module has completed itspower-on self-test and softwareinitialization and is operatingnormally.Amber/Steady The module failed its power-onself-test.Module OnlineOff The switch power is off. Ifthe switch power is on, themodule is going through itspower-on self-test and softwareinitialization. A module in thisstate is not yet functional.The 8648TXE module supports up to 32 000 table entries in its forwardingengine. For information about table entry characteristics, see NetworkDesign Guidelines (313197-E).The 8648TXM module is an M module and supports up to 128 000 tableentries in its forwarding engine, allowing for large Layer 2 and Layer 3configurations, including Internet routing tables. For information about tableentry characteristics, see Network Design Guidelines (313197-E).The Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 system has three hardwareoperating modes:• Default mode (32 000 table entries) supports up to 32 000 hardwarerecords. This mode supports all modules.• M mode (128 000 table entries) supports up to 128 000 hardwarerecords. This mode supports M modules only.• R mode supports up to:— 256 000 IP routes— 64 000 MAC entries— 32 000 ARP entriesThis mode supports R modules only.The 8648TXE module does not support R or M mode. The 8648TXMmodule supports R and M mode.
