Océ VarioPrint 1105Inline FinishingThe Océ VarioPrint 1105comes with the option of three finishingmodules.1. Stapler Stacker Unit2. Multi-Folding Unit3. Saddle-Stitch Bookletmaker TrimmerUnit4. High Capacity Stacker unit5. Perfect BinderStapler Stacker UnitThe stapler stacker unit which can hold up to3,000 sheets, can staple up to 100-pagedocuments in multiple positions using aproduction class inline clinch wire stapler.The stapler supports subset finishing, givingusers the ability to incorporate multiplefinishing options into a single print run. Thisis a useful function when producing copies oflitigation discovery materials where repeatsets must comply with the exact samefinishing/document production format as theoriginal master set. The stapler stacker unitcan be added to any of the other threefinisher options, and in conjunction with thehigh capacity stacker units.Multi-Folding UnitThis module is attracting a lot of attentiondue to its wide variety of folding capabilities,taking the Océ VarioPrint 1105beyond the document production foldingcapabilities of competing units. The multi-folding unit sits directly to the left of the mainengine unit.The unit includes not only the folding capabilityfor the device, but also the dual post-processinsertion and selectable two, three and four-holepunch capability. While the absence of thefolding function may not be a major issue forthe back office environment choosing the highcapacity stackers, the omission of a post-process insertion capability may be an issue.Some fold functions are designed to be usedon a sheet by sheet basis, in preparation forfinal handout or mailing (V fold, letter fold,double parallel, gatefold), while others areused within the production of a larger multi-page document, allowing for example theincorporation of a ledger/A3 page into aletter/A4 document (Z-fold).The post process insertion (PPI) unit, whichis mounted on top of the folding moduleincludes two separate sheet insertion feedtrays of 500 sheets, each capable of handlingup to 170 lb. Index/300 gsm. The PPI allowsoperators to incorporate pre-printed sheetsand other stocks that might be damaged inthe high temperature of the fuser unit. Wewere disappointed to find that the PPI canonly be used to add cover pages, andcannot be used in conjunction with the sheetinsertion function to incorporate pre-printedpages within the bulk of the document. Thisfeature is available on some competingunits.Paper HandlingHigh Capacity StackersThe Océ VarioPrint 1105 hasoptions to stack up to 10,000sheets via 2 high capacitystackers. Sheets can be stackedvia the main tray, where it ispossible to remove the printedoutput via a trolly. The sub trayoffers the possibility for an extra500 sheets paper output, withoutthe need to open the main stackertray.Perfect BinderThe Océ VarioPrint 1105 alsooffers the perfect binder, whichis perfect to use for glue-boundedbooks. The perfect binder canhandle books up to 30mm,which are collected togetherwith a pre-printed cover via theinsert tray. The melted gluechips produce a glue strip on thespine of the collected output.Where the face-edge covertrimmer, cuts the cover the geta glue bounded booklet. Theoutput tray makes it possibleto stack the bounded bookletsup to 50 pieces.
