This operation MUST NOT be repeatedsystematically, as it will damage the print head.It should ONLY be attempted as a last resort,before changing the ENTIRE print head.1. Dampen a tissue handkerchief with distilledwater; squeeze it slightly to remove anyexcess water.2. Open the printer cover.3. Position, release and remove the print head.4. Holding the print head with the nozzles facingdownwards, blot it against the handkerchief,pressing lightly.5. Repeat the blotting operation a few times ondifferent areas of the handkerchief, to cleanthe nozzles.6. Reinsert the print head in the printer and closethe printer cover.7. Print the “demo” page to check the quality ofprinting (see the specific paragraph in“Preparing the printer using the printermonitor ”).Print head containerInstead of the standard colour print head, you canuse an optional economy colour printer head withreplaceable cartridge, available from your dealer.This optional print head has the same functionand duration as the standard colour print head,but has a slightly inferior output. If you do notintend to print photographs or high quality colourouput, you may find this optional print head moreeconomic to use.If you decide to buy and use the optional colourprint head, you MUST also acquire and use aprint head container (see “Supplies and options”)to store the standard colour print head that youhave removed from the printer. Place thestandard colour print head, IMMEDIATELY, ASIT IS, in the storage container, closing the lidsecurely to prevent the ink drying and blockingthe print nozzles.DO NOT PLACE TAPE, PAPER, OR ANYOTHER MATERIAL OF THE PRINT HEADNOZZLES.You can then insert the optional colour print headin the printer, following the print head insertionprocedure described in the Installation Guide.More about print heads 19
