127ENSAFETY PRECAUTIONS11• Always unload the battery from the camerabefore storing the camera for a long period.• This camera uses a lithium ion batteryspecified by Olympus. Do not use any othertype of battery. For safe and proper use, readthe battery's instruction manual carefullybefore using it.• If the battery's terminals get wet or greasy,camera contact failure may result. Wipe thebattery well with a dry cloth before use.• Always charge a battery when using it forthe first time, or if it has not been used for along period.• When operating the camera with batterypower at low temperatures, try to keepthe camera and spare battery as warm aspossible. A battery that has run down atlow temperatures may be restored after it iswarmed at room temperature.• The number of pictures you can take mayvary depending on the shooting conditionsor battery.• Before going on a long trip, and especiallybefore traveling abroad, purchase extrabatteries. A recommended battery may bedifficult to obtain while traveling.• When the camera will not be used for anextended period, store it in a cool place.• Please recycle batteries to help save ourplanet’s resources. When you throw awaydead batteries, be sure to cover theirterminals and always observe local laws andregulations.Caution for Usage Environment• To protect the high-precision technologycontained in this product, never leave thecamera in the places listed below, no matter ifin use or storage:• Places where temperatures and/orhumidity are high or go through extremechanges. Direct sunlight, beaches, lockedcars, or near other heat sources (stove,radiator, etc.) or humidifiers.• In sandy or dusty environments.• Near fl ammable items or explosives.• In wet places, such as bathrooms orin the rain. When using products withweatherproof designs, read their manualsas well.• In places prone to strong vibrations.• Never drop the camera or subject it to severeshocks or vibrations.• When mounted on a tripod, adjust theposition of the camera with the tripod head.Do not twist the camera.• Do not leave the camera pointed directlyat the sun. This may cause lens or shuttercurtain damage, color failure, ghosting onthe image pickup device, or may possiblycause fires.• Do not touch electric contacts on camerasand interchangeable lenses. Remember toattach the body cap when removing the lens.• Before storing the camera for a long period,remove the battery. Select a cool, dry locationfor storage to prevent condensation ormold from forming inside the camera. Afterstorage, test the camera by turning it on andpressing the shutter release button to makesure that it is operating normally.• The camera may malfunction if it is used ina location where it is subject to a magnetic/electromagnetic field, radio waves, or highvoltage, such as near a TV set, microwave,video game, loud speakers, large monitorunit, TV/radio tower, or transmission towers.In such cases, turn the camera off and onagain before further operation.• Always observe the operating environmentrestrictions described in the camera'smanual.• Do not directly touch or wipe the imagepickup device of the camera.MonitorThe display on the rear of the camera is an LCDmonitor.• In the unlikely event that the monitorbreaks, do not put the liquid crystal in yourmouth. Any of the material adhering to yourhands, feet, or clothing should be rinsed offimmediately.• A strip of light may appear on the top/bottomof the monitor, but this is not a malfunction.• When a subject is viewed diagonally in thecamera, the edges may appear zigzagged onthe monitor. This is not a malfunction; it willbe less noticeable in playback mode.• In places subject to low temperatures, themonitor may take a long time to turn on or itscolor may change temporarily.When using the camera in extremely coldplaces, it is a good idea to occasionally placeit in a warm place. An monitor exhibiting poorperformance due to low temperatures willrecover in normal temperatures.• The monitor is made with high-precisiontechnology. However, black spots or brightspots of light may appear constantly on themonitor.Due to its characteristics or the angle atwhich you are viewing the monitor, the spotmay not be uniform in color and brightness.This is not a malfunction.
