53ENUsage TipsIf the camera does not work as intended, or ifan error message is displayed on the screen,and you are unsure of what to do, refer to theinformation below to fi x the problem(s).TroubleshootingBattery“The camera does not work even whenbatteries are installed”.Insert recharged batteries in the correct direction.“Inserting the battery” (p. 10)Battery performance may have been reducedtemporarily due to low temperature. Take thebatteries out of the camera, and warm them byputting them in your pocket for a while.Card/Internal memory“An error message is displayed”.“Error message” (p. 54)Shutter button“No picture is taken when the shutterbutton is pressed”.Cancel sleep mode.To save battery power, the camera automaticallygoes into sleep mode and the monitor turns offif there is no operation for 3 minutes when thecamera is turned on. No picture is taken even ifthe shutter button is fully pressed in this mode.Operate the zoom lever or other buttons to restorethe camera from sleep mode before taking apicture. If the camera is left for another 12 minutes,it automatically turns off. Press the n buttonto turn the camera on.Press the q button to switch to the shootingmode.Wait until #(flash charge) stops blinking beforetaking pictures.With prolonged camera use, the internaltemperature may increase, resulting in automaticshutdown. If this occurs, remove the batteryfrom the camera and wait until the camerahas suffi ciently cooled. The camera’s externaltemperature may also increase during use,however this is normal and does not indicatemalfunction.●●●●●●Monitor“Diffi cult to see”.Condensation *1 may have occurred. Turn off thepower, and wait for the camera body to becomeacclimated to the surrounding temperature and dryout before taking pictures.*1 Dew drops can form in the camera when it issuddenly taken from a cold location into a warm,humid room.“Vertical lines appear on the screen”.This condition may occur when the camera ispointed at an extremely bright subject under aclear sky and so on. The lines do not appear,however, in the final image.“The light is caught in the picture”.Shooting with fl ash in dark situations results inan image with many flash reflections on dust inthe air.Date and time function“Date and time settings return to thedefault setting”.If the batteries are removed and left out of thecamera for about 3 days *2 , the date and timesettings return to the default setting, and mustbe reset.*2 The time until the date and time settings returnto the default setting varies depending on howlong the batteries have been loaded.“Setting the date, time and time zone” (p. 13)Miscellaneous“The camera makes a noise when takingpictures”.The camera may activate the lens and make anoise even if no operation is performed. Thisis because the camera automatically performsactions of auto focus as far as it is ready to shoot.●●●●●
