104Operating precautionsDo not allow any water to get into the camera-recorder when using it in the rain or snow or atthe beach.Failure to heed this caution will cause thecamera-recorder or a card to malfunction (andmay result in irreparable damage).Keep the camera-recorder away fromequipment (such as TV sets and video gamemachines) that generate magnetic fields.Using the camera-recorder on top of or near aTV set may cause distortion in the images and/orsound due to the electromagnetic waves that theset emits. The powerful magnetic fields generated byspeakers or large motors may damage yourrecordings or distort the images. The electromagnetic waves emitted from amicrocomputer will adversely affect the camera-recorder, causing the images and/or sound to bedistorted. If the camera-recorder is so adversely affected byproducts that generate magnetic fields that it nolonger operates properly, turn it off and removethe battery or unplug the AC adapter from thepower outlet. Then install the battery again orreconnect the AC adapter. After this, turn thecamera-recorder back on.Do not use the camera-recorder near radiotransmitters or high-voltage equipment.Using the camera-recorder near a radiotransmitter or high-voltage equipment mayadversely affect the recorded images and/orsound.Do not allow any sand or dust to get into thecamera-recorder when using it at the beachand other similar places.Sand and dust can damage the camera-recorderor a card. (Be especially careful when inserting orremoving a card.)AC adapter and batteryIf the CHARGE lamp continues to blink evenwhen the battery temperature is normal, theremay be something wrong with the battery or ACadapter. Contact your dealer. The battery takes longer to charge when it iswarm. The AC adapter can interfere with radio receptionso keep radios at least 1 meter away from it.••••••••••The AC adapter may make some noise when youare using it, but this is normal.Take precautions not to drop the camera whenmoving it.Strong impacts may damage the camera andcause it to stop working.Handle the camera with care, using the handstrap or shoulder strap to carry it.Do not spray the camera with insect sprays orother volatile substances. These can warp the camera or cause the finishto come off.Do not leave the camera-recorder in contact withrubber or PVC products for extended periods oftime. After use, remove the battery and disconnectthe AC power supply cord.Battery characteristicsThis camera-recorder uses a rechargeablelithiumion battery that uses its internal chemicalreaction to generate electrical energy. This reactionis easily influenced by the ambient temperatureand humidity, and the battery’s effective operatingtime is reduced as the temperature rises or falls. Invery low temperatures, the battery may last only 5minutes.Protective circuitry functions if you use the batterywhere it is very hot and you will have to wait beforeyou can use it again.Remove the battery after use.Completely remove the battery. (The batterycontinues to be used even if you have turnedthe camera off.) The battery can over dischargeif you leave it in the camera and it may becomeimpossible to recharge it.Disposing of spent batteriesThe battery will become unchargeable. Rather thanthrowing the battery into the garbage, take it to astore that can assist in recycling it.•••••
