86DubbingYou can dub clips from a P2 card onto a tape thathas been inserted into the unit.Only clips recorded in 1080i and 720P formatscan be dubbed. In either case, the image signal isdownconverted, reduced to SQUEEZE size, andrecorded in DV format.Be aware that you cannot dub clips recorded inDVCPRO50/DVCPRO/DV format onto a tape.• Check to see if the tape is in a write-protectedstate. (During the dubbing operation, an errormessage does not appear.)• Insert the P2 card and tape into the unit, and setthe MEDIA switch to the TAPE position. (Pages24 and 28)• When recording for the purpose of dubbing, it isrecommended that a slightly higher setting (+5 orso) be used for the DETAIL LEVEL item on theSCENE FILE screen of the setting menu.1 Set the unit’s POWER switch to ON.2 Press the mode button to light up the VCRlamp.3 Move the tape forward to the position tostart recording.• It is convenient to use the End Search (page74) function.4 Hold down the mode button (at least 2seconds).The DUB lamp now lights, and dubbing mode isestablished.VCRDUBMCRPCCAMERAThe clips on the P2 card appear as thumbnailson the LCD screen.• To set the formats that permit dubbing1) Press the THUMBNAIL button to closethe thumbnail display, and use the MENUbutton to open the menu.2) Select DUBBING SETUP and thenFORMAT SEL to select the format.Select the same format as the recordingformat shown at the bottom left of thethumbnail display.(Since the format of clips for whichstandard recording was used at thevariable frame rate is 720P/50P, select720P/50P using FORMAT SEL.)Dubbing the contents of P2 cards onto a tape (dubbing mode)3) Use the MENU button to close the menu,and press the THUMBNAIL button to returnto the thumbnail display.Clips with formats that permit dubbing areindicated by black numbers; all other clipsare indicated by the red numbers. (Clipsindicated by the red numbers cannot bedubbed.)5 Select the first clip to be dubbed using theand buttons, and press the button.You can select multiple clips by repeatingthe above procedure. Upon completing theselection, switch to the SELECTED CLIPSdisplay on the THUMBNAIL menu, and checkthat the cursor appears at the first clip on thethumbnail display.• To dub all the clips in the format selectedin step 4Position the cursor at the first valid clip(indicated by the black number) on thethumbnail display.• Dubbing will start from the clip where thecursor is positioned so check the position ofthe cursor before proceeding.• Dubbing will not start if the cursor ispositioned on a clip indicated by a rednumber.6 Press the two REC buttons simultaneously.If you are using the remote control, press thePLAY button while holding down the RECbutton.Dubbing now starts. When it finishes, it willautomatically stop, and the thumbnail displaywill be restored. (To stop dubbing while it isunderway, press the button.)
