Answering System Features68 For assistance, please visit http://www.panasonic.com/consumersupportRing countYou can change the number of times thephone rings before the unit answers calls.You can select 2 to 7 rings or “Tollsaver”.“Toll saver”: The unit answers on the2nd ring when new messages have beenrecorded, and on the 4th ring when thereare no new messages. If you call yourphone from outside to listen to newmessages (page 65), you will know thatthere are no messages when the phonerings for the 3rd time. You can then hangup without being charged for the call.1 Press {MENU} (center of joystick).2 Scroll to J, then press {SELECT}.3 Scroll to “Ring count”, then press{SELECT}.4 Push the joystick up or down repeatedlyto select the desired setting.5 Press {SAVE}, then press {OFF}.Note:L Usually the unit will announce thecaller’s name after the 2nd ring. If youturn on the answering system, and setthe ring count to 2 rings, the unit will notannounce the caller’s name. If “Tollsaver” is selected, and there is a newmessage, the unit will not announce thecaller’s name.For Voice Mail service subscribersIf you subscribe to a flat-rate bundleservice that includes Caller ID, CallWaiting, Voice Mail, and unlimited local/regional/long distance calls, please notethe following:L To use the Voice Mail service providedby the telephone company rather thanthe unit’s answering system, turn off theanswering system (page 61).This unit does not have an indicator toindicate if there are new messages inyour mailbox service.L To use this unit’s answering systemrather than the Voice Mail serviceprovided by your telephone company,please contact your telephone companyto deactivate your Voice Mail service.If the telephone company cannot do this:– Set this unit’s “Ring count” settingso that this unit’s answering systemanswers calls before the telephonecompany’s Voice Mail service tries toanswer your calls. It is necessary tocheck the ring count required toactivate the Voice Mail serviceprovided by your telephone companybefore changing this setting.– Change the ring count of the VoiceMail service so that the answeringsystem can answer the call first. To doso, consult your telephone company.
