vii3610-A2-GB41-70 July 1999PrefaceAbout this GuideThis applications guide is intended as a supplement tothe operator’s guide; it only contains installation andoperation information that is specific to the Time DivisionMultiplexer (TDM), Multichannel Multipoint (MCMP),and digital bridge options for the COMSPHERE 3600Series Data Service Units (DSUs), Models 3610 and 3611.Since a DBM-V, DBM-S, or DBM-D is only used indigital bridge configurations, information specific to thesecircuit cards is included in this applications guide, alongwith SNA Diagnostic Interface information as it applies toTDM or MCMP configurations. However, a DBM-V,DBM-S, or DBM-D operates like an internal Dial BackupModule (DBM), so if your application uses a DBM-V,DBM-S, or DBM-D, refer to the other applications guide.Order the COMSPHERE 3600 Series Data ServiceUnits, Models 3610 and 3611, Operator’s Guide for thetechnical specifications for the DSU and all of its options, basic DSU installation and operation information, verification of network operation, all configurationoptions tables and worksheets, DCP messages for alloptions, and troubleshooting flowcharts.DATAPHONE II and Diagnostic Microcomputer (DMC)Network Management System (NMS) references are alsoprovided, along with a complete equipment list andglossary.Order the COMSPHERE 3600 Series Data ServiceUnits, Models 3610 and 3611, Dial Backup Module andSNA Diagnostic Interface Options, Applications Guide ifyour application uses these options as part of itsconfiguration, or if your application uses DBM-Vs,DBM-Ss, or DBM-Ds. It also provides a NetViewcommands reference for your convenience. How to Use this GuideChapter 1 gives a general overview of the features forthe 3600 Series DSU and its TDM and MCMP options.Refer to this chapter for a summary of feature capability.Chapter 2 explains how to install and set up aModel 3610 (standalone) DSU-TDM/Flex orDSU-MCMP/Flex, or if you have added a TDM/Flex orMCMP/Flex to your DSU. If you ordered a TDM/DSD orMCMP/DSD, refer to this chapter to change interfacesettings.Chapter 3 explains how to install and set up aModel 3611 (carrier-mounted) DSU-TDM orDSU-MCMP, or to add a TDM or MCMP to your DSU.Chapter 4 familiarizes you with the basic principlesunderlying TDM, MCMP, and digital bridge operation. Italso explains how SNA Diagnostic Interface operation isaffected when using these features.Chapter 5 identifies and discusses how the DSUfunctions differently or has different selections availablewhen the TDM or MCMP is installed, or when a DBM-V,DBM-S, or DBM-D is installed.Appendix A provides a summary of the DSU’s menustructure. Refer to the menu tree as you proceed throughthe menu via the DCP (or SDCP if you have a Model3611 DSU).Appendix B provides a summary of all of theconfiguration options in the form of ConfigurationWorksheets, along with a suggestion for how theworksheets can be used.Appendix C provides pin assignments for TDM orMCMP interfaces and cables.Appendix D shows typical system configurationsutilizing TDM, MCMP, and digital bridging. Theseconfigurations also indicate the configuration options thatshould be set to duplicate these scenarios for your ownapplications.Index
