Smartphone User Manual7.Synchronizing1247.1 Understanding ActiveSyncActiveSync synchronizes information stored on your Smart-phone with Microsoft Outlook information on your desktopcomputer or Microsoft Exchange Server. It also allowsyou to share files between your phone and your desktopcomputer.When you synchronize, ActiveSync compares the infor-mation on your device with the information on your desktopcomputer and/or Exchange Server and updates all locationswith the most recent information.With ActiveSync, you can:• Synchronize Inbox, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks infor-mation on your phone with your desktop computer.• Synchronize Inbox, Contacts, and Calendar on your phonewith the Outlook information on a server running MicrosoftExchange Server so that you have the latest information,even when your desktop computer is turned off.• Copy (rather than synchronize) files between your phoneand your desktop computer.• Synchronize on a schedule to control when synchro-nization occurs.• Select which types of information are synchronized andspecify how much information is synchronized. For example,you can choose how many weeks of past appointments tosynchronize.Using Server ActiveSync, you can synchronize informationdirectly with a Microsoft Exchange Server if your companyis running Microsoft Mobile Information Server.
