Vertical Penetration FramingInstalling the Ceiling Firestop• Frame an opening 10 inches by 10 incheswhenever the vent system penetrates aceiling/floor (see Figure 6.3).• Frame the area with the same sizedlumber as used in ceiling/floor joist.• When installing a top vent verticaltermination appliance the hole should bedirectly above the appliance, unless theflue is offset.• Do not pack insulation around the vent.Insulation must be kept away from thepipe.Figure 6.3ATTIC ABOVE10 IN.
