Paying attentionto your posture is essential to ensure your continuedcomfort and well being.Always make sure that you can be seen clearly,•especially if you intend using your wheelchair in poorlight.This wheelchair has been built to match the needs of•a particular user. If used by another user then it mayneed to be adjusted and reprogrammed.Do not let children or others use your wheelchair.•4.2 features and optionsnote: Some of the options shown in this manual maynot be available in your country and may also restrictthe overall physical limits of the standard product (e.g.max. speed, user weight limit, etc.). For further information pleaseconsult your Sunrise Medical authorised dealer.4.3 kerbsdanger!Never descend a kerb Forwards with a RWD chair or•Backwards with a FWD and MWD chair. Please readcarefully the section 4.33 on kerb climbing in thismanual before attempting to mount and dismount anykerbs in your wheelchair.Do not attempt to climb or descend a series of•steps. It is unsafe to do so and could cause personalinjury or damage the chair. The Jive has only beendesigned to climb a single step or kerb.We recommend that users with upper trunk instability•wear further customised restraint systems to keepthe upright body position during decending orascending ramps, curbs or obstacles.4.4 routine serviceThe recommended service interval is one year. (Seeservice history table in section 16).4.5 emergency freewheeldanger!Please remember that you have no braking facility•when the freewheel levers are moved from thenormal drive position to the freewheel position (Fig.4.1). Always ensure an attendant is with you whenbringing the chair into the freewheel mode.The wheelchair must never be left with one or both•levers in the freewheel position. For an enhanceddescription of this facility and its limitations to useplease see later section at 5.4.4.6 emc - radio transmitting devices.warnIng!When operating two-way radio, walkie-talkies, C.B.,•amateur radio, public mobile radio and other powerfultransmitting devices the wheelchair should bebrought to a halt and turned off.The operation of cordless, mobile telephones•and cell phones including hands-free devices ispermitted but if abnormal operation of the wheelchairis encountered then the chair must be broughtimmediately to a halt and turned off.note: the electrical systems of the wheelchair maydisturb the performance of alarm systems in retail shops.4.7 emergency brakingThere are three ways to stop your wheelchair:1. Simplest and safest way to stop the wheelchair is torelease the joystick (see Hand Control section 7). Thiswill bring the chair to a halt in a controlled manner.2. Pulling back the joystick will brake the chair abruptly witha fast stop3. Switching the control system off whilst the chair is inmotion will also bring the chair to a halt.warnIng!This third method is only to be used in an emergencysituation as the stopping action is very abrupt.Fig. 4.1
