LCD INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS Page 31The boiler/water heater should be cleaned andinspected once a year, before each heating season.Make sure that the burner and ignition components arefree from dust, soot, dirt, corrosion or other deposits thatwould impair the boiler/water heater ‘s performance.Burner Inspection And Removal - Figure 201. Close the manual shutoff valves in the gas supplylines and turn off electrical power to the boiler/waterheater.2. Remove the front jacket panels.3. Disconnect the manifold gas piping at the groundjoint union(s). Also disconnect the pressure sensinglines, pilot tubing and ignition and sensing leads.4. Remove the manifold(s).5. Remove the burner(s) from the lower front combus-tion chamber panel.6. Inspect the burners for damage or signs ofdeterioration. Use a brush or compressed air toremove any debris from the burner ports.7. DO NOT install a damaged or badly corrodedburner replace it.8. Install the burner(s) making sure that the burnergasket is not torn or deteriorated. If it is replace it.9. Reassemble the unit following the removal steps inreverse order.Heat Exchanger Inspection - Figure 201. Close the manual shutoff valve in the gas supplyline and turn off electrical power to the boiler/waterheater.2. Remove the jacket front panels.3. Disconnect the gas piping at the ground jointunion(s). Also disconnect the pressure sensinglines, pilot tubing and ignition and sensing leads.4. Remove the 1/4 inch nuts and washers holding theupper combustion chamber front panel in place andcarefully remove it.5. Inspect the inside and outside of the heat exchangerfor signs of damage, sooting or corrosion.6. The outside surfaces of the copper tubes should befree of any soot deposits. A slight black smudge isnormal with some types of gases. Black sootindicates poor combustion. Green deposits indicatecondensation due to low return water temperatures. In either case the heat exchanger must be cleanedthoroughly and the problem resolved before theboiler/water heater is returned to service7. If there are no signs of damage, sooting or corrosionreassemble the unit following the previous steps inreverse order.8. A badly corroded or damaged heat exchanger mustbe replaced, see the HEAT EXCHANGERREMOVAL section below.Optional Gas Pressure SwitchesOptional low and/or high-pressure gas pressureswitches will shut down the 24 VAC circuit if excessivelyhigh or low gas pressure exists in the gas train or supplypiping.MAINTENANCEWARNING: Disconnect electrical power andclose the manual gas shut off valve beforeperforming maintenance or severe personalinjury may result!WARNING: Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service or maintenance can causeproperty damage, personal injury, exposure tohazardous materials or loss of life.
