This socket is wired for compatibly with other industrystandard microphones. The desk top microphone is compatible with theSMX920 and MX800. Also provides RS 232 Communication betweenradio and PC. The pin configuration can be found in Appendices Section8.1♦ RS232 PortThe RS232 programming port is part of the front Panel Microphoneaccessory socket. You will be required to make a RS232 cable to be able tocommunicate will the in built menu system software in the SMX920.Please refer to Appendices Section 8.3 on how to make this cable.♦ Loudspeaker and Volume ControlA 3 Watt loudspeaker is provided to monitor 'on air' received audio. Thevolume is adjusted in the usual manner by Rotating the volume controlclockwise to adjust the volume control for a comfortable listening level. Ifno sound is heard, temporarily un-mute the radio by briefly rotating theSquelch Control full anti-clockwise. You can adjust the volume bylistening to the receiver's background noise.The speaker can also monitor a tone output function from themicrocontroller. This may be used in conjunction with the appropriatesoftware configuration to generate an alert tone to the user.♦ Mute / Squelch AdjustmentThe squelch is used to eliminate any annoying background noise whenthere are no signals present. When no signal is received, rotate the Squelchcontrol (SQL) fully counter clockwise first, and then rotate SQL clockwiseto the point that the noise just disappears. This will provide optimumSquelch performance.When the Squelch is Open, the receiver's background noise can be heardand 'Green RX LED' is lit on the front panel display. When the Squelch isclosed, the receiver remains quiet when there are no signals present but any
