Chapter 7: Using the KVM Client62Color AccuracyWhen Color Accuracy is selected, all video modes are rendered in full24-bit color with more compression artifacts. This setting applies to viewing video streams such as movies or otherbroadcast streams. In lower quality video modes, sharpness of fine detail, such as text, issacrificed.Video ModeThe Video Mode slider controls each video frame's encoding, affectingvideo quality, frame rate and bandwidth. In general, moving the slider to the left results in higher quality at thecost of higher bandwidth and, in some cases, lower frame rate.Moving the slider to the right enables stronger compression, reducingthe bandwidth per frame, but video quality is reduced. In situations where system bandwidth is a limiting factor, moving thevideo mode slider to the right can result in higher frame rates. When Text Readability is selected as the Optimized setting, the fourrightmost modes provide reduced color resolution or no color at all. These modes are appropriate for administration work where text andGUI elements take priority, and bandwidth is at a premium.Noise FilterUnless there is a specific need to do so, do not change the noise filtersetting. The default setting is designed to work well in most situations. The Noise Filter controls how much interframe noise is absorbed by theDominion User Station.Moving the Noise Filter slider to the left lowers the filter threshold, resulting in higher dynamic video quality. However, more noise is likelyto come through, resulting in higher bandwidth and lower frame rates.Moving the slider to the right raises the threshold, allows less noise andless bandwidth is used. Video artifacts may be increased.Moving the noise filter to the right may be useful when accessing acomputer GUI over severely bandwidth-limited connections.
