70 ST7000 Plus Autopilot Control Unit Owner’s HandbookThe ST7000 Plus should immediately respond by switching on itsdisplay illumination. If the illumination does not switch on then a cabling fault exists in theSeaTalk cabling between the ST7000 Plus control head and theinstruments/control unit.EMC ConformanceThe design and manufacture of Autohelm equipment and accessoriesconforms to the appropriate Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)standards, but good installation is required to ensure that performanceis not compromised. Although every effort has been taken to ensurethat they will perform under all conditions, it is important tounderstand what factors could affect the operation of the product.Always check the installation before going to sea to make sure that it isnot affected by radio transmissions, engine starting etc.In some installations, it may not be possible to prevent the equipmentfrom being affected by external influences. In general this will notdamage the equipment but can lead to it resetting, or momentarily mayresult in faulty operation.6.2 Initial Sea TrialHaving checked that the system is functioning correctly, a short seatrial is now required to complete the setup. It involves the followingprocedures:• Automatic compass deviation correction.• Heading alignment adjustment.• Autopilot operation check.• Rudder gain adjustment.Note: The ST7000 Plus has a built-in calibration capability whichenables the autopilot to be fine tuned to suit the individual vessel, itssteering system and dynamic steering characteristics. As supplied fromthe factory the unit is calibrated to provide safe stable autopilot controlfor the majority of vessels. The initial sea trial should be performed under the followingconditions:• After all the successful completion of the installation procedure, functional testing and initial calibration.
