SECTION H: GAS SUPPLY CONNECTIONSDANGER: Make sure the gas on which the boiler will operate is the same type as specified on the boilermodel and rating plate.Gas piping must have a sediment trap ahead of the boiler gas controls, and a manual shut-off valve located outside the heaterjacket. A pounds to inches regulator must be installed to reduce to gas supply pressure to under 14" W.C. The regulatorshould be placed a minimum distance of 10 times the pipe diameter upstream of the boiler gas controls. All gas piping mustbe tested after installation in accordance with local codes. The boiler and its gas connection must be leak-tested beforeplacing it in operation.Fig. #9226.1GAS SUPPLY CONNECTIONCAUTION: The boiler and its manual shutoff valve must be disconnected from the gas supply during any pressuretesting of the gas supply system at test pressures in excess of 1/2 PSIG (3.45 KPA). The boiler must beisolated from the gas supply piping system by closing the manual shutoff valve during any pressuretesting of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2 PSIG. Relieve testpressure in the gas supply line before reconnecting the boiler and its manual shut off valve to the gassupply line. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE MAY DAMAGE THE GAS VALVES. Overpressurized gas valves are not covered by warranty. The boiler and its gas connections shall be leak testedbefore placing the appliance in operation. Use soapy water for leak test: DO NOT use open flame.CAUTION: Do not use Teflon tape on gas line pipe thread. A pipe compound rated for use with gas systems isrecommended. Apply sparingly only on male pipe ends.CAUTION: Support gas supply piping with hangers, not by the boiler or its accessories. Ensure the gas piping isprotected from physical damage and freezing where required.GAS SUPPLY PRESSUREA minimum of 7î W.C. and a maximum of 14î W.C. upstream gas pressure is required under load and no load conditions fornatural gas. A minimum of 12î W.C. and a maximum of 14î W.C. is required for propane gas. The gas pressure regulatorsupplied on the boiler is for low pressure service. If upstream pressure exceeds 14" W.C, an intermediate gas pressureregulator, of the lockup type, must be installed. When connecting additional gas utilization equipment to the gas piping system, the existing piping must be checked todetermine if it has adequate capacity.19
