US-13CHT2250US■ SPARK ARRESTER (MA4)• The muffler is equipped with a sparkarrester to prevent red hot carbon fromflying out of the exhaust outlet.Periodically inspect and clean asnecessary with a wire brush.In the State of California it is requiredby law (Section 4442 of the CaliforniaPublic Resources Code) to equip aspark arrester when a gas powered toolis used in any forest covered, brushcovered, or grass covered unimprovedland.(1) Spark arrester■ INTAKE AIR COOLING VENT• Never touch the cylinder, muffler, orspark plugs with your bare handsimmediately after stopping theengine. The engine can become veryhot when in operation, and doing socould result in severe burns.• Clean the cylinder fins withcompressed air or a brush. (MA5)(1) Cylinder(2) Intake air cooling vent (back)• If waste gets stuck and causesblockage around the intake air coolingvent or between the cylinder fins, it maycause the engine to overheat, and thatin turn may cause mechanical failureon the part of the hedge-trimmer.■ BLADESOil blades each gas tank filling. (MA6)• Make sure that the blade bolts arewell tightened.• The blade assembly is designed toautomatically compensate for anyplay between the blades.■ Sharpening (MA7)Always keep the file or sharpener at anangle of 45° to the blade, and:• Always grind in the direction of thecutting edge;• Note: files cut only in one direction; liftWARNINGIMPORTANTWARNINGMA4MA5MA6MA7MA8MA98. Maintenancethe file from the blade when returningto start a new pass;• Remove all burr from the edge of theblade with a slip stone;• Remove as little material as possible;• Before refitting the sharpened blades,remove filings and then apply grease.Do not try to sharpen a damaged blade:change it or take it to a Service dealer.■ REDUCTION GEARBOXRefill gear housing every 25 workinghours.Use greese pump. Feed greese until itcomes out of the base of blades. (MA8)■ PROCEDURES TO BE PERFORMEDAFTER EVERY 100 HOURS OF USE1. Remove the muffler, insert ascrewdriver into the vent, and wipeaway any carbon buildup. Wipe awayany carbon buildup on the mufflerexhaust vent and cylinder exhaust portat the same time.2. Tighten all screws, bolts, and fittings.3. Check to see if any oil or grease hasworked its way in between the clutchlining and drum, and if it has wipe itaway using oil-free, lead-free gasoline.
