12 Maintenance• Make sure that the engine has stoppedand is cool before performing anyservice to the hedge-trimmer. Contactwith moving cutting head or hot mufflermay result in a personal injury.n DAILY INSPECTION• Check all the fasteners for loose or missingones.• Brush off dirt on the blades and apply alight coating of oil.• The blades are loose-installed to the guidebar with several screws and nuts. Do nottighten up those screws, or the blades willbe locked and result in clutch failures.Allow the screws a half spare turn, andsecure there with the nut(See NOTE onpage 8).n GEAR CASE• At every 25 hours of use, supply grease tothe gear case. Pump in grease via thegrease fitting until it comes out of the rootof blades.n AIR FILTER• The air filter, if clogged, will reduce theengine performance. Monthly check andclean the filter element in warm, soapywater as required. Dry completely beforeinstalling. If the element is broken orshrunk, replace with a new one.NOTEWARNINGn FUEL FILTER• When the engine runs short of fuel supply,check the fuel cap and the fuel filter forblockage.n SPARK PLUG• Starting failure and mis-firing are oftencaused by a fouled spark plug. Periodicallyclean the spark plug and check that thespark gap is in the correct range. For areplacement plug, use the correct typespecified by RedMax(See SPECIFI-CATIONS on the page 15).• REPLACEMENT PLUG IS A CHAMPIONRCJ6Y OR THE EQUIVALENT, SUCH ASBOSCH WR8E OR NGK BR6S.• Note that using any spark plugs other thanthose designated may result in the enginefailing to operate properly or in the enginebecoming overheated and damaged.• To install the spark plug, first turn the pluguntil it is finger tight, then tighten it aquarter turn more with a socket wrench.IMPORTANT
