Maintenance■ BLADES (MA1)• When refilling the tank or resting, it isoften a good idea to use the time to oilthe cutting blades.• If a gap exists between the upper andlower blades, follow the procedurebelow to adjust them so that they fitmore closely together.1. Loosen lock nut (A) as shown in thediagram.2. Tighten screw (B) fully, and then turnone-third to one-half of a rotationbackward.3. While holding onto the screw to keep itin position, tighten the lock nut.4 .Check to make sure that the flatwasher (C) is loose enough so that itmay be turned by pressing on it with afinger.(1) Upper blade(2) Lower blade• Screwing in the screw too tightly maymake it impossible for the blades tomove. Conversely, not screwing in thescrew tightly enough may make theblades of the trimmer feel dull andcause leaves and branches to becomecaught in the blades of the trimmer.NOTEQUICK TIPIf the blades become so worn down that itis no longer possible to eliminate the gapbetween them, you should contact theauthorized RedMax servicing dealer fromwhich you purchased your RedMaxtrimmer to have the blades resharpenedor replaced.■ GEAR CASEThe reduction gears are lubricated bymultipurpose, lithium-based grease in thegear case. Supply new grease every 25hours of use or more often depending onthe job condition. When adding lubricant, use a grease gunto insert lubricant into the three greasenipples located on the gear case.
