Wall straps are availablefor this purpose.5) Mark the wall for a 10" x 10" square hole. Thecenter of the square hole should line up with thecenterline of the horizontal pipe. Cut and framethe 10 inch square hole in the exterior wall wherethe vent will be terminated. If the wall beingpenetrated is constructed of non-combustiblematerial, i.e. masonry block or concrete, a7"(178mm) diameter (7-1/2"(191mm) dia. forflex) hole is acceptable.note:a) The horizontal run of vent must be level, orhave a 1/4 inch rise for every 1 foot of runtowards the termination. Never allow thevent to run downward. This could causehigh temperatures and may present thepossibility of a fire.b) The location of the horizontal venttermination on an exterior wall must meetall local and national building codes, andmust not be blocked or obstructed. See"Exterior Vent Terminal Locations" Section.c) Snorkel Terminations:For installations requiring a vertical rise onthe exterior of the building, 14-inch and 36-inch tall Snorkel Terminations and the RiserVent as shown in Dia. 2 & 2a are available.Follow the same installation procedures asused for standard Horizontal Termination.NEVER install the snorkel upside down.Below Grade Snorkel InstallationIf the Snorkel Termination must be installedbelow grade, i.e. basement application,*As specified in CGA B149 Installation Code.Local codes or regulations may require differentclearances.Diagram 2proper drainage must be providedto prevent water from entering theSnorkel Termination. Refer to Dura-Vent Installation instructions for details.Do not attempt to enclose the Snorkelwithin the wall, or any other type ofenclosure.6) The arrow on the vent cap shouldbe pointing up. Insure that the 1-1/2"clearances to combustible materials aremaintained (Dia. 3). Install the terminationcap. AstroCapTM or Dura-Vent HorizontalTermination Cap may be used. The four wood screws provided shouldbe replaced with appropriate fasteners forstucco, brick, concrete, or other types ofsidings.Diagram 2aInstall the vent system according to themanufacturer's instructions included with thecomponents.1) Set the unit in its desired location. Checkto determine if wall studs or roof raftersare in the way when the venting system isattached. If this is the case, you may wantto adjust the location of the unit. Rough inthe gas preferably on the right side of theunit and the electrical (junction block is onthe left side) on the left.2) Direct Vent pipe and fittings are designedwith special twist-lock connections toconnect the venting system to the applianceflue outlet. A twist-lock appliance adaptoris an available option that must be used inconjunction with the Simpson Dura-VentDirect Vent system.3) Put a bead of silicone inside the outer sectionof the adapter and a bead of Fireplace Mateon the inner collar. Slip the adapter over theexisting inner and outer flue collar and fastento the outer collar only with the 3 suppliedscrews (drilling pilot holes will make thiseasier). Level the fireplace and fasten it tothe framing using nails or screws throughthe nailing strips.4) Assemble the desired combination of pipeand elbows to the appliance adaptor andtwist-lock for a solid connection.note:a) Twist-lock procedure: Four indentations, located on the female ends of pipes andfittings, are designed to slide straightonto the male ends of adjacent pipesand fittings, by orienting the four pipeindentations so they match and slidein to the four entry slots on the maleends, Dia. 1. Push the pipe sectionscompletely together, then twist-lockone section clockwise approximatelyone-quarter turn, until the two sectionsare fully locked. The female locking lugswill not be visible from the outside, onthe Black Pipe or fittings. They may belocated by examining the inside of thefemale ends.NOTE: For best results and optimumperformance with each approved ventingsystem, it is highly recommended to apply“Mill-Pac” sealant (supplied) to every in-ner pipe connection. Failure to do so mayresult in drafting or performance issues notcovered under warranty. Silicone (red RTV)is optional.Note: If installing termination on a sidingcovered wall, a vinyl siding standoffor furring strips must be used toensure that the termination is notrecessed into the siding.7) Before connecting the horizontal run of ventpipe to the vent termination, slide the WallThimble (Part # 620-926) over the ventpipe.
