Regency ® E33S-1 Sunrise Gas Insert 21OPERATIONOPERATING INSTRUCTIONSIMPORTANT: Gas on/off knob cannot beturned from "PILOT" to "OFF" unless it ispartially depressed.1) Turn burner OFF using "ON/OFF" switch.2) Turn gas control knob so indicator pointsto "OFF" position and allow 5 minutes forany gas in the combustion chamber toescape.3) Turn gas control knob counterclockwiseso indicator points to the "PILOT" position.Depress the gas control knob fully. Depressthe ignitor button several times until thepilot lights. After approximately one minute,release the gas control knob. The pilot flameshould continue to burn. If the pilot does notremain lit, repeat operation allowing a longerperiod before releasing gas control knob.4) When the pilot stays lit, turn the gas knobfurther counterclockwise to the "ON"position.5) Use the switch, thermostat or remote controlto turn on the unit.6) Rotate the flame height regulator to adjustthe flame height higher or lower.SHUTDOWNPROCEDURE1) Use the switch, thermostat or remote controlto turn off the main burner.2) Turn the main gas control clockwise to the"OFF" position to turn off the pilot.3) Turn off all electric power to appliance ifservice is to be performed.FIRST FIREThe first fire in your insert is part of the paintcuring process. To ensure that the paint isproperly cured, it is recommended that youburn your insert for at least four (4) hours thefirst time you use it with the fan on. When firstoperated, the unit will release an odour causedby the curing of the paint, the burning off ofany oils remaining from manufacturing. Smokedetectors in the house may go off at this time.Open a few windows to ventilate the room fora couple of hours.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THEGLASS WHILE IT IS HOT.Note: When the glass is cold and theappliance is lit, it may causecondensation and fog the glass.This condensation is normal andwill disappear in a few minutes asthe glass heats up.DO NOT BURN THE APPLIANCEWITHOUT THE GLASS FRONT INPLACE.OPERATINGINSTRUCTIONS1) Read and understand these instructionsbefore operating this appliance.2) Check to see that all wiring is correct andenclosed to prevent possible shock.3) Check to ensure there are no gas leaks.4) Make sure the glass in the door frame isproperly positioned. Never operate theappliance with the glass removed.5) Verify that the venting and cap areunobstructed.6) Verify glass crystal placement.7) The unit should never be turned off, and onagain without a minimum of a 60 secondwait.LIGHTINGPROCEDUREFINAL CHECKBefore leaving this unit with the customer, theinstaller must ensure that the appliance is firingcorrectly. This includes:1) Clocking the appliance to ensure thecorrect firing rate (rate noted on label) at15 minutes.2) First allow the unit to burn for 15 minutes tostabilize. If required, adjust the primary airto ensure that the flame does not carbon.3) Check for proper draft.CAUTIONAny alteration to the product thatcauses sooting or carboning thatresults in damage to the exteriorfacia is not the responsibility ofthe manufacturer.During the fi rst few fi res, a white filmmay develop on the glass front as partof the curing process. The glass shouldbe cleaned or the fi lm will bake on andbecome very diffi cult to remove. Use anon-abrasive cleaner and NEVER cleanthe glass while it is hot.IMPORTANTPrior to igniting or reigniting thepilot, remove the glass door.NOTE: For all propane units and unitsequipped with electric spark boxes,see "Copy of Lighting Plate Instruc-tions" section for more details.Only when the pilot holds, without pressurebeing applied to the control knob, should youreinstall the glass door. The unit must not beoperated with the glass door removed.
