English• 19 •10 DESCALING CYCLEThe formation of limescale inside the appliance is inevi-table. It is necessary to descale the machine every 3-4months of use and/or when you notice a reduction in thewater capacity of the appliance.If you want to descale the machine yourself,you can use a non-toxic and/or non-harmfuldescaling product for coffee machines (commerciallyavailable). We recommend using Saeco descalingsolution.Caution! Do not use vinegar as a descaler.• (Fig.2) - Remove and empty the water tank.• (Fig.3) - Mix the descaling solution with water as specifiedon the pack of the descaling product and fill the water tank;insert the tank into the machine.• (Fig.7) - Turn on the machine by pressing the ON/OFFswitch (18).• (Fig.8) - Place a container below the steam spout.• Open the knob (5) to remove, at intervals and one cup ata time, the whole descaling product. Close the knob (5)to stop the dispensing.• (Fig.7) - During each interval allow the descaling solutionto take effect for about 10-15 minutes, disconnecting theON/OFF switch (18). Empty the container.• (Fig.2-3) - When the descaling solution is finished,extract the water tank, rinse it and fill it with fresh drinkingwater.• (Fig.4; Fig.8) - Reinsert the tank in the machine. Openthe knob (5) to empty 2/3 of the water. Close the steamknob (5) clockwise to stop dispensing.• Let the machine warm up and empty the water tank asdescribed above.If you are using a product other than therecommended one it is important to alwaysfollow the manufacturer’s instructions shown on thepack of the descaling product.11 DISPOSAL• Put unused appliances out of service.• Disconnect the plug from the socket and cut the electricalcord.• At the end of its life, take the appliance to a suitable wastecollection site.This product complies with EU Directive 2002/96/EC.The symbol on the product or on its packag-ing indicates that this product may not be treated ashousehold waste. Instead it shall be handed over to theapplicable collection point for the recycling of electrical andelectronic equipment.By ensuring this product is disposed of correctly, you willhelp prevent potential negative consequences for theenvironment and human health, which could otherwise becaused by inappropriate waste handling of this product.For more detailed information about recycling of this prod-uct, please contact your local city office, your householdwaste disposal service or the shop where you purchasedthe product.
