1.5 <Introduction>Understanding the Status LEDThe color of the Status LED indicates the machine's current status.NoteAlways check the message on the display to solve the problem.The instruction in the Troubleshooting section will guide you tooperate the machine properly. See page 7.1 for moreinformation.Status DescriptionOff • The machine is powered off.Green Blinking • When the backlight slowly blinks, the machineis receiving data from the computer.• When the backlight blinks rapidly, the machineis printing data.On • The machine is powered on and can be used.• The machine is in power save mode. Whendata is received, or any button is pressed, itswitches to the ready mode automatically.Red Blinking • A minor error has occurred and the machineis waiting for the error to be cleared. Checkthe display message, and solve the problemreferring to "Understanding displaymessages" on page 7.7.• The print cartridge is low. Order a new printcartridge, see "Ordering supplies andaccessories" on page 8.1. You cantemporarily improve print quality byredistributing the toner. See "Replacing theprint cartridge" on page 6.4.On • A problem has occurred such as a paper jam,opened cover or no paper in the tray, so thatthe machine can not continue the job. Checkthe message on the display, and refer toUnderstanding display messages on page 7.7to solve the problem.• The print cartridge is low, empty, or needs tobe changed. See "Understanding displaymessages" on page 7.7.Status LED with the print cartridge messagesThe status of print cartridges is indicated by the status LED and the LCDdisplay. If the print cartridge is low or needs to be changed, the statusLED turns red and the display shows the message. However the arrowmark (or marks) shows which color toner is of concern or may be installedwith a new cartridge.Example:The above example shows the print cartridges' status of the color shownby arrows.
