Entering Text 62Section 4: Entering TextThis section describes how to select the desired text inputmethod when entering characters into your device. Thissection also describes the predictive text entry system thatreduces the amount of key strokes associated with enteringtext.Your device comes equipped with an orientation detector thatcan tell if the phone is being held in an upright (Portrait) orsideways (Landscape) orientation. This is useful whenentering text.Your device also provides several onscreen keypad text entryoptions to make the task of text entry that much easier.Text Input MethodsThere are three text input methods available:• Google voice typing: Provides a voice to text interface.• Samsung keyboard (default): An onscreen QWERTYkeyboard that can be used in both portrait and landscapeorientation.• Swype: Allows you to enter text as you swipe across theonscreen keyboard. Instead of tapping each key, use yourfinger to trace over each letter of a word.The onscreen QWERTY keypad works the same in bothportrait and landscape mode.Selecting the Text Input MethodThe Text Input Method can be assigned from within one oftwo locations:Settings Menu: From a Home screen, tap Menu and then tapSettings ➔ My device ➔ Language and input ➔Default and select an input method.Text Input field:1. From a screen where you can enter text, in a singlemotion, touch and drag the Status bar down to thebottom of the screen to open the Notifications screen.2. Tap Select input method and select an availableinput method.My deviceMy device
