DCS Gateway Keyset User Guide— 1 —Things You Should KnowGeneral InformationDCS Gateway telephones are called “keysets”. The buttons or“keys” are used to access or activate system features. The keyswith paper designation strips are programmable keys, whichcan be programmed for specific features. See your SystemAdministrator to get the most-frequently used features as-signed to your keys. (Also refer to Assigning Features to Pro-grammable Keys in the ‘Customising Your Keyset’ Section.)Lines from the Telephone Company are “C.O. lines.” Calls onthese lines are referred to as “outside calls.” Your system canhave individual C.O. line keys or lines may be assigned togroups. When they are in a group, you access a line by diallingan access code or pressing a route key. For example, dial 9 toget a local outside line. Lines in the system are numbered from701 (702, 703, etc.).Direct Station Selection (DSS) keys are programmed to ringspecific extensions. You can press a DSS key instead of dial-ling the extension number. A DSS key will light red when thatextension is busy (this is called a Busy Lamp Indication).DCS provides distinctive ring patterns to your keyset:• Outside calls have a double ring tone repeated.• Internal calls have a single ring tone repeated.• Alarm/appointment reminders have a short ring tone re-peated very quickly.
