2. Product Specifications and Description2.6. Fuser unitThis section describes the fuser unit structure and the image fusing process.2.6.1. Fuser unit overviewThe fuser unit fuses the toner that was transferred by the transfer roller onto the paper, by applying heat and pressure tocomplete fusing process.1) Halogen LampThe fuser unit has two halogen lamps. One heats the center of the heat roller, the other heats the end of axial direction.These halogen lamps are lit alternately to heat the heat roller. Each lamp has its coil in a different location. The coilof the center heater lamp is in the center, those of the side heater lamp are on both sides. The lamps are fixed insideof the heat roller. When rotating the heat roller, these lamps does not rotate.2) Heat RollerThe heat roller is made by the aluminum and gets heat from the halogen lamp and transfer it to toner and paper. Toprevent the heat roller from adhering to the toner, its surface includes the fluoridation. And to keep the proper nip widthbetween the pressure roller and heat roller, the pressure roller Assy pushes the heat roller by using the spring.3) Pressure RollerThe pressure roller is a silicon rubber roller which ensures proper nip width between the pressure roller and heat roller.4) NC sensorNC sensor (non-contact type thermistor), located near the center of the heat roller, controls the temperature.5) ThermostatThermostats cut off the power supply to the halogen lamp by opening the circuit when the heat roller becomesabnormally hot as a result of problems such as NC sensor malfunction. These thermostats are used to prevent abnormaloperation.
