138▶ Installing the Sound Driver after a Windows XPReinstallationIf you install the sound driver after reinstallingWindows XP, the Add Hardware Wizard (ModemDevice) window may appear during the sound driverinstallation.This happens because the High Definition Audio—KB888111 Hotfix, which has been installed on yoursystem, has changed the settings to search for bothsound and modem devices. If you install the modemdevice, this message will not appear. If necessary,install the modem device together.The number of the High Definition Audio—KB888111Hotfix may differ if you have updated the Hotfix from theMicrosoft web site.QI cannot hear the modem sound.A1 Check that the telephone line is properlyconnected to the modem.A2 Check that the modem driver is installed properly. Click Start > Control Panel > Performance andMaintenance > System. Select Hardware tab > Device Manager > Modemsin the System Properties window, and check if thereis a yellow exclamation mark on the installed modemicon. If there is, delete the modem device driver andreinstall the driver, because the yellow exclamationmark represents a not properly installed driver.
