Messages94Multimedia messagesMultimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messagingservice very similar to Short Message Service(SMS). It provides asynchronous delivery ofpersonal multimedia messages from between phoneand phone, phone and e-mail, phone and web(byURL).In addition to the familiar text content of textmessages, multimedia messages can containimages, graphics, voice and sounds. An MMSmessage is a multimedia presentation in a singleentry. It is not a text file with attachments.Using the MMS feature, your phone can receivemultimedia messages. You can also send picturemessages. This function is available only if it issupported by your service provider. Only phonesthat offer picture message features can receive anddisplay picture messages.Retrieving a new messageWhen you are retrieving a message, the Retrievingicon ( ) appears on the display. When you finishretrieving a new message, the New message icon( ) and a text notification showing the number ofthe message appear on the display. You also hearan alert, depending on the message sound setting;for further details, see page 83.To read the new message in Idle Mode, press theView soft key. And then you see the list in theInbox. If you select a message, you can read it.Messages95Notes:• while retrieving a new message, you cannot accessWAP sites, and cannot also enter the Downloadsmenu (see page 124).• To clear the new message notification on the display,press the key. When you also have missedcalls, voice mails, short messages or multimediamessages, and multi CBs, the right soft keyindication changes in the following order: Missed,Connect, View, CB and Phonebook.If Message reception was set to Manual (fordetails, see page 111), when the New message icon( ) appears on the display, you have to retrievemessages in the Inbox. You select a message withthe icon such as , and in the Inbox. Thenyou can select retrieve or delete message bypressing the Opt. soft key.Managing memoryWhen the memory is full, the New message icon( ) blinks and an error message displays. (Itdisappears when you press the key, but itreappears if you don’t delete old messages.) In thiscase, you cannot receive any new messages. Youmust delete one or more old messages to get freememory for new messages using the Delete optionwithin the Inbox, Outbox, Draft or My folder, or theDelete all option; for further details, see page 105.
